Prof. Guaning Su is the President Emeritus of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and the Chairman of K&C Protective Technologies Pte. Ltd. (KCPT), Singapore.

Dr. Su was President of NTU from 2003 to 2011. He led the transformation of NTU from a teaching oriented collection of professional schools to become a leading global research-intensive university currently ranked 13th in the world by QS and 4th in Engineering and Technology. For this fundamental contribution he was conferred the title of President Emeritus when he stepped down in 2011. He also serves currently as Chairman of the Board of KCPT specialising in Security by Design for key infrastructure like transport hubs.

In 2006, Dr Su transformed the university into a private sector autonomous university framework and widened its academic and research programmes. Under Dr Su’s leadership, NTU dramatically enhanced its research and educational capacities, bringing in top global faculty and young promising researchers. The university’s competitive research funding increased many fold and the citation impact a lot more.

A Singapore President's Scholar and Colombo Plan Scholar, Dr Su obtained his PhD in Electrical Engineering and MS in Statistics from Stanford University. His MS and BSc in Electrical Engineering (with Distinction) were from the California Institute of Technology and University of Alberta, respectively. The University of Alberta conferred him an honorary doctorate in 2015.

Before joining NTU, Dr Su worked for 30 years in defence research. He headed Singapore's defence research for 11 years and became the founding Chief Executive of Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency in 2003

Dr Su chairs the International Advisory Board of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and also serve on the International Advisory Board of King Abdulaziz University. He is a Life Fellow of IEEE as well as Founding Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering and  ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology. He is Honorary Fellow and past President of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore. He was conferred the Meritorious Service Medal and three other public service medals by the President of Singapore, the National Science and Technology Medal and Defence Technology Medal (Outstanding Service), Singapore; Chevalier of the Legion of Honour by the President of France; and the Friendship Award from the State Council of China.
