First Meeting of International Advisory Board Held

 

KAU President, HE Prof Osama S. Tayyeb, chaired on January 29th, 2011 the inaugural meeting of the International Advisory Board of King Abdulaziz University in the presence of an assortment of prominent international experts known for their achievements and contribution in higher education, industry and public service.

In addition to Prof Adnan H. Zahed, KAU Vice-President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research and the Board's Secretary, the meeting was also attended by:

• Prof Thomas Wilhelmsson, Rector of the University of Helsinki, Finland.
• Dr Sabine O'Hara, Executive Director of the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), US.
• Dr Nahed M. Taher, CEO of Gulf One Investment Bank, Bahrain.
• Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi, CEO of Al-Amoudi Group, KSA.
• Dr Abdullah Atalara, Rector of Bilkent University, Turkey.
• Dr Julio José Frenk Mora, former Secretary of Health of Mexico. 
• Prof Marc Van Montagu, Founder and Chairman of the Institute of Plant Biotechnology for Developing Countries (IPBO), Belgium.
• Prof Georg Winckler, Rector of the University of Vienna, Austria.
• Dr Michiharu Nakamura, Board Director Hitachi Ltd., JAPAN.
• Prof Ralf Hemmingsen, Rector of the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
• Dr Su Guaning, President of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
• Prof Gordon Gee, President of Ohio State University, US, (1990-1997).
• Dr Vincenzo Costigliola, President of the European Medical Association (EMA).
• Dr Rafael Puyol Antolin, President of the Board of Governors of IE University, Spain.

The Board is meant to enhance the University’s international status and presence through achievements, particularly in the areas of research and innovation.

It also aims to help forge strategic alliances with community service establishments, academic institutions and international industrial firms, as well as setting up partnerships with international universities and research centers.
