  • Prof. Martin Andrew Padmos President and CEO of Royal College International, CANADA
  • Prof. Martin Andrew Padmos has served as Chief Executive Officer of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada from 2006 through 2019.
  • Effective January 1, 2020 he is now the president and CEO of Royal College International, a subsidiary of the Royal College, dedicated to international outreach and academic partnerships.
  • He attended Trinity College in the University of Toronto, enrolled in political science and economics. After graduating with a BA he was selected in the first class of McMaster University’s Medical School in 1969, and graduated in 1972.
  • He completed specialty residency training at McMaster and was certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, first in Internal Medicine in 1976 and then in Clinical Hematology in 1977.
  • In 1978, he took up an appointment at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH & RC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During a 15 year term he started the first bone marrow transplant program in the Middle East, built and managed a large clinical program in hematology and oncology and served in many administrative and leadership capacities, including department head of Oncology and medical director.
  • He returned to Canada in 1993 to take up appointments in Kingston, Ontario as CEO of the Kingston Regional Cancer Centre, professor at Queen’s University and head of Oncology at Kingston General and Hotel Dieu Hospitals.
  • In 1998 he was recruited to Halifax, Nova Scotia as the inaugural commissioner of Cancer Care Nova Scotia, head of cancer services at the QEll Health Sciences Centre, (now Capital District Health Authority), and professor and associate dean for cancer programs at Dalhousie University. From 2003-2006, he also served as the Vice President for Research, Academic Affairs and Quality in Capital District Health Authority.
  • In 2006, Dr. Padmos was recruited to position of CEO of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, (RCPSC). Since then the Royal College has undertaken an ambitious agenda of transformation of postgraduate medical education, membership and volunteer programs, health policy and advocacy, external relations and international outreach. The Royal College has made a large commitment to international outreach and collaboration with schools, hospitals, associations and agencies in the Arabian Gulf, China, Latin America and Africa.
  • The Royal College is also a founding member of CIHEA, (Canadian International Health Education Association) a trade association for Canadian health sector organizations, institutions and businesses to coordinate and facilitate the export of Canadian health and education system businesses, innovations and processes to improve global health through education of the health workforce. Dr. Padmos chairs its board of directors. Throughout his career, Dr. Padmos has been a leader, innovator and manager of people, programs and projects.
  • He has recently been appointed to the Governing Council for the University of Toronto, and as one of two Canadian leaders to the International Advisory Board of King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
